United Development Company, the master developer of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, won the 2023 SEAL Award for Sustainability Pioneers, honoring the company’s CEO and board member, Mr. Ibrahim Jassim Al-Othman, for his role in leadership, innovation and commitment to sustainable business practices. Al-Othman was selected among 9 senior executives who received the Sustainability Leader Award, based on achieving environmental and social governance objectives, leadership skills, and the ability to attract and retain talent. It means award "torrent" Awarded to organizations based on four categories: environmental initiative, sustainable innovation, sustainable product, and sustainable service. The selection of the United Development Company comes based on its implementation of various initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and reducing carbon emissions on the Pearl Island, such as the tree planting initiative for employees, the development of a biodiversity map, the sea baskets project to protect marine organisms, as well as the development of an environmental sustainability strategy for the period 2022-2026 to reduce carbon emissions, encouraging a circular economy based on reducing waste, using recycled building materials, and rationalizing water consumption. It is worth noting that UDC has led several initiatives and won several awards, and this comes within the framework of its strategic plan that gives priority to environmental governance and pursuant to the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 represented by the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change.
