New Delhi. Trying to order groceries with Blinkit but the app isn’t working? Well, if you are living in the Delhi NCR region, you might face some difficulties in using the services of Blinkit which is the grocery arm of Zomato. This is because Blinkit’s delivery partners are currently on strike demanding the restoration of the previous payment system. The protest has led to the closure of around 50 stores of Zomato’s Blinkit grocery unit in different parts of Delhi-NCR.
Reports suggest that hundreds of delivery partners working with Zomato-owned Blinkit are on strike for the past three days to protest against the company’s change in payout structure. The reason behind the strike is the recent changes in Blinkit’s payment structure, where delivery partners are now getting a minimum fee of Rs 15 per delivery instead of the earlier payment of Rs 25 per delivery.
As per the revised payment structure of Blinkit, delivery partners will now receive a minimum fee of Rs 15 per delivery instead of Rs 25 per delivery. Around fifty workers working in multiple locations said that after experiencing the new pay structure, they realized that their daily income would come down by 40-50 per cent. The employees want the new pay structure to be scrapped immediately, and request that any change in the pay structure should be done in active consultation with the employees.

Meanwhile, Blinkit app service has been ‘temporarily unavailable’ in most parts of Delhi-NCR. This is affecting regular customers of the app as they have not been able to place orders on the Blinkit app for the past few days as a message greeted them saying “temporarily unavailable due to high demand”.
Several users also raised the issue on Twitter and asked the company about the discontinued services. Responding to a user’s question on Twitter, Blinkit said that they are undergoing maintenance. “We understand this must be causing you trouble. Our teams are working to fix it as soon as possible, and we will be back to serve you again very soon,” it tweeted.

This is not the first time Zomato has tweaked its services this year. Earlier in January, the food delivery platform had decided to shut down its 10-minute food delivery service Zomato Instant, less than a year after its launch due to problems in profitability amid tough market conditions. Zomato told its restaurant partners that it is considering discontinuing this service.
Last year the company laid off about 3 per cent of its workforce as part of cost-cutting measures to keep its ship running in tough economic conditions. And now cutting the profits of distribution partners also looks like a strategy for the company to reduce costs and increase profits.
