The specialist explained why ticks become bloodthirsty in April, reports stolicaonego.ru.
In St. Petersburg, cases of tick bites were recorded in the spring of 2023. The first 20 arthropods were brought to the study. The Komzdrav informed that borreliosis was detected in 4 of them. In Altai, the first tick was handed over for research on March 20.
Experts informed that the tick does not bite in the usual sense of the word. It pierces the skin with a special proboscis and reaches the blood vessels. The tick injects a cocktail of various substances into the saliva: analgesics, anticoagulants and infectious agents. Ticks determine the approach to the victim for five meters.
In most regions of the Russian Federation, the tick season begins in April. Ticks come out of hibernation and go out to hunt. The second peak of tick activity is observed in September.
According to studies, about 10% of ticks are infected with encephalitis. The virus is transmitted to humans through the saliva of ticks.
Rospotrebnadzor informed about the detection of a new tick-borne virus – Haseki. During the first 3-5 days, the infected person has fever and respiratory syndrome. This virus can be transmitted alone or with other tick-borne infections.
Experts advise after detecting a tick on the body, carefully remove it without damaging the head and abdomen, put it in a container with a damp cloth and put it back for research. If you feel worse, experts recommend seeing a doctor. Doctors will prescribe the necessary tests and prescribe a treatment regimen. When caught early, tick infections respond well to treatment.
