Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Pakistan: Chinese engineer agitated over slow work in Ramadan, arrested on charges of blasphemy

Islamabad. A Chinese national has been arrested in Pakistan on charges of blasphemy. According to reports, a man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly insulting ‘Allah’. He is an employee of China’s Gezhouba Group of Company. According to media reports, this arrest can also become the reason for political dispute between Pakistan and China.

The Chinese national is an engineer. He worked at the Dasu Hydropower Project, about 350 km from Islamabad. During Ramzan, the laborers wanted to take longer breaks and their working speed was also less. There was a debate between the laborers and the Chinese citizens regarding this matter. When the argument escalated, a scuffle started. It was told that the engineer had made derogatory remarks about Allah. After this people came to kill him.

After this, seeing the anger of the crowd, an employee of the company called the police. The police came and took the Chinese national into custody. He has been kept at the police station of Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Now a case of blasphemy has been registered against him, regarding which a meeting of the Tribal Council will be called. Now it is also being said that China will not tolerate this incident and it may lead to political dispute with Pakistan. At the same time, Pakistan says that he has been kept in police custody for the safety of the citizen.

This is not the first time in Pakistan that a case of blasphemy has been registered against a foreigner. Earlier a Sri Lankan citizen was beaten to death in 2021. The dead body was burnt by a mob of workers. The issue was that the workers were asked to remove a religious sticker during cleaning. If he did not remove it, the Sri Lankan citizen removed it himself. After this, the workers beat him to death.
