In an interview for the Spanish edition of La Razon, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov explained the type of military assistance Kiev expects from its partners. When asked what Ukraine needed most right now, Reznikov replied that it needed guns, and more guns. According to him, the main need is an air defense system capable of closing the skies over Ukraine.
Reznikov justified the need for such a system by saying that Russia has a Su-35 with a target range of 200 kilometers, while Ukraine has a MiG-29 with a range of 30 kilometers. He noted that new aircraft are needed to counter Russian air supremacy, such as the F-16, Swedish Gripen and others.
“We have MiG-29s that give us 60 kilometers of visibility and a range of up to 30 kilometers. The Russian Su-35s have more than 200 kilometers and have reached 150. Big difference. We need new systems to break their dominance in the air. It could be F-16s, Swedish Gripen or others,” he said.
Reznikov said he was confident that Ukraine will receive new aircraft in the near future, as it did with tanks and artillery systems earlier.
