Measles outbreaks have been recorded this year in several regions of Russia at once. As a rule, the disease affects children, but it can be dangerous for adults, so it is important to start treating it in time. The problem is that at first the disease can be disguised as other diseases. Pediatrician Lusine Chebotareva told about this in an interview with The Eastern Herald in St. Petersburg.
“Now there are people who have never seen measles, and many may confuse, or vice versa, getting measles where it is not,” the doctor explained.
According to the specialist, at first, measles can easily be confused with the flu. The first symptoms of these diseases are very similar – a cough and general malaise. Measles is distinguished by a bright rash on the body, so the patient should periodically examine himself.
“First, the rash appears on the head and behind the ears. It is also important to look at the oral mucosa, this is a very typical measles rash,” the pediatrician said.
Vaccination remains the most effective means of protection against measles. Earlier, “The Eastern Herald in St. Petersburg” wrote that the cleansing vaccination against the disease will last in Russia until the end of the year.
