Imran Khan claims, another deadly attack may happen on me during Eid holidays

Islamabad: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has revealed that he has concrete information about another possible assassination attempt at his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, during the upcoming Eid holidays. He claimed that this would be the second assassination attempt since last year’s Wazirabad attack during the long anti-government march from Lahore to Islamabad. Khan made these claims during the hearing of his petition filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking directions to arrest and stop taking any action in respect of around 121 FIRs lodged against him.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief alleged that “they” are planning another assassination attempt, similar to the “well-planned” attack in Wazirabad. The word ‘theirs’ used by Khan is what he refers to the government, security and military establishment, whom he has been accusing of conspiring against him to first topple his government and then eliminate it.

The former PM requested the Lahore High Court to intervene in the matter and direct the authorities concerned to refrain from arresting him so as to avoid a ‘bloodshed’ that has been planned by ‘him’. Khan also said that the current coalition government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif does not plan to imprison him, but to eliminate him. He said, “If my Zaman Park residence is attacked again by the police and security officials, the situation will worsen. Those who want to kill me are sitting in the government and want bloodshed.

Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar told the court that when India and Pakistan can declare a ceasefire during Muharram, “why can’t they prevent police officers from arresting Imran Khan during the Eid holidays?” The lawyer said that ‘in both the cases of Imran Khan and Shahbaz Gill, the police officers were restrained from taking any coercive measures, but the officers did not bother to follow any order of the court.’
