Russian Federation military exercises in the Pacific are attributed to Japan’s claims to the Southern Kuril Islands. Such actions have made the US authorities seriously fearful, not ready for such a show of force from Russia, reports the foreign edition of Baijiahao.
Despite Japan’s claims of ownership of the South Kuril Islands, the West is wary. The military exercises of the Russian fleet in the Pacific Ocean have made it clear to Japan and the United States that it is not worth landing your troops on Russian Kurilian territory.
“Knowing the dangers of provocation by Russia, Japan always acts voluntarily as a ‘pawn’ of the United States and increases the degree of tension in the region,” the publication reports.
Earlier, Japan for the first time declared the Kuril Islands “illegally occupied” by the Russian Federation. An entry on this subject appeared in the annual report “Blue Book on Diplomacy”, which was presented by the head of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yoshimasa Hayashi.
