During the armed conflict in Sudan, several MiG-29 fighters were destroyed at the Meroe air base. This is evidenced by data from satellite images obtained by The War Zone.
In all likelihood, these are the same planes that the Sudanese rebels captured a few days ago. They belong to the Egyptian Air Force. According to satellite images, at least one of these planes was destroyed and the others were badly damaged.
According to sources, the fate of two other MiG-29 aircraft, which were in one of the hangars, remains unknown. At the same time, the hangar itself suffered severe damage as a result of the attack. The probability that the planes that were there were destroyed is therefore very high.
The War Zone notes that Al Obeid Air Base was also attacked. There were several Su-25 attack aircraft here. According to the publication, they were also destroyed. Along with them, the Guizhou JL-9 combat training aircraft was also destroyed.
Experts note that attacks on air bases in Sudan and the destruction of aircraft there will have an extremely negative impact on the combat capabilities of the Egyptian Air Force. And they have already fallen noticeably due to the recent refusal to acquire Russian Su-35 fighters, which therefore ended up in Iran.
