Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Muslim side asked for permission to perform Wuju inside Gyanvapi, CJI said- Call the collector meeting and decide

New Delhi. The Supreme Court heard the petition of the Muslim side seeking permission for Wudu in Gyanvapi Masjid. CJI DY Chandrachud’s bench said that the Varanasi collector should call a meeting of the concerned officials on April 18 and take a decision in that. So that facility can be given for Wudu in the premises of Gyanvapi Masjid. The petition was filed by the Anjuman Intejamia Masjid Committee. In which it was said that the ablutions built inside the mosque should be opened. Which has been sealed as Shivling. In fact, during Ramzan, the Masjid Committee filed a petition seeking alternative arrangements for Wudu, hearing which a bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala fixed the date for April 21.

Muslim side’s lawyer Huzaifa Ahmadi said, Ramzan is on. The authorities can arrange for mobile toilets. So there, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, the place where they are talking about Wudu is a disputed area where the Shivling is there, so this demand can create problems. Although the collector and the mosque committee can take a decision on this.

He further said, the concern is that the mobile toilet should not affect the sanctity of the premises. For this, the authorities will have to take appropriate steps. Also, CJI DY Chandrachud said the petitioners want adequate space for ablutions and washrooms. For this, the Varanasi collector should call a meeting on April 18 so that an amicable solution can be found. The matter be listed on April 21. If a decision for mobile toilets and wudu is taken by mutual consent in the meeting, it can be implemented without waiting for further orders from the court.

In fact, five Hindu women had sought permission to worship the Hindu deities present in the Gyanvapi mosque complex. These women especially wanted permission to worship Shringar Gauri every day. A survey was also done in the mosque on the orders of the court. After the survey, the Hindu side claimed that a Shivling is present in the basement of the mosque, while the Muslim side called it a fountain. Let us tell you, the Varanasi court has now decided to hear seven cases of Gyanvapi and Shringar Gairi together. After a long hearing and deferred orders, the Varanasi Court on Monday said that 7 cases related to worship and raga-bhog would be clubbed together and heard.
