The Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided not to allow the Russian men’s team to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. Moscow will not participate in the pre-qualifying tournament in Paris.
The matches will take place from August 12 to 20 with the participation of 40 teams. According to their results, five teams will be determined, which will advance to the qualifying tournaments.
FIBA representatives explained their decision by the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the participation of Russian or Belarusian athletes in international competitions dated March 28, 2022.
“The FIBA ​​Executive Committee has decided not to allow the entry of the Russian men’s team into the FIBA ​​Pre-Qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games,” the organization said in a statement. communicated.
Russia will be replaced by Bulgaria, which follows them in the European team standings.
