The White House is preparing to impose unprecedented restrictions on investment in China

US President Joe Biden’s administration is set to announce “unprecedented” measures to limit US investment in China, Politico has found. According to the publication’s interlocutors, the American authorities could announce new measures as early as the end of April.

“Officers are closing in on an agreement on a key effort to curb Beijing’s technological and military rise. Unprecedented rules to restrict US investment in China are expected later this month.

Among the possible restrictions, Politico interlocutors cite a requirement for US companies to notify the government of new investments in China and a ban on tech companies from certain transactions with China in “critical sectors”, including the purchase of microchips.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the White House considers Chinese TikTok a national security threat.
