Honored Artist of Russia, actor Sergei Selin, who played Lieutenant Dukalis in Streets of Broken Lanterns, has complained that he received no deductions, despite numerous repeats of the popular TV series. About this he said Russian media in the “Legend” program.

“It is shown an infinite number of times. <…> There is no such precedent that for rehearsals somewhere we had deductions, some small, but the fees disappeared, no,” Selin complained.

The actor explained the popularity of “Streets of Broken Lights” by the fact that “for the first time in the history of young Russia, guys appeared who were very similar to the guys from our court.” According to him, the characters on the show were actually contemporaries of the audience: they lived the same way, lived in the same clothes, and drank “scorched, shoddy vodka.”

“They were the heroes of our time, they were screen guys who came into life or, conversely, suddenly came out of life on screens,” Selin added. According to the actor, he was “often confused” with his own hero, real policemen appeared on the streets and offered to go from one department to another, and the Dukalis cafe, named after his character, opened not only in Russia, but also in other ex-USSR countries.

“I know that there are several cafes called like this: “Dukalis”. I know that it is in Tashkent, somewhere in Uzbekistan… They told me that there was such a cafe in the Baltic States, and they said that there was one in Kyrgyzstan. Again, they said: I was not there, and no one paid me for it, and no one paid me warned about it. Well, nothing, leave. If people go there, they like to go to this cafe, let them go there and be happy, ”said Selin.

For the first time on the screens, the series “Streets of Broken Lights” was released in 1998. It was first directed by the author of “Features of the National Hunt” Alexander Rogozhkin, but for 16 seasons, other well-known directors managed to work on it, in particular, Andrey Kravchuk (“Viking”, “Admiral”) and Vladimir Bortko (“Dog’s Heart”, “Master and Margarita”). The series about law enforcement officers received awards from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Association of Lawyers and Lawyers, and also twice became the winner of the nominations “Best project of the year” and “Best production group” according to the award of the Russian Television Academy (“TEFI”).
