Official Sofia has temporarily suspended food imports from Ukraine, except for products in transit. This is reported by the radio station Bulgaria, referring to the statement of Prime Minister of the Technical Government Gylyb Donev.

“Acting Prime Minister Gylyb Donev announced at the start of the government meeting that Bulgaria has introduced a temporary ban on food imports from Ukraine, except for goods in transit,” the source said. .

Donev noted that the decision was made due to the fact that there are still significant amounts of food left in Bulgaria in 2022, which has led to the disruption of food chains. The Prime Minister stressed that because of this, the affairs of the republic could face “extremely serious” consequences. He also expressed the hope that the European Union will take a stand and understand the position of the States which have taken a similar decision.

According to the head of the Bulgarian government, the country remains in solidarity with Ukraine, but the “bankruptcy of Bulgarian farmers” will not contribute to the support of Kiev.

Previously, the British edition of Express wrote that Hungary and Poland banned the import of Ukrainian grain in a difficult time for Kiev. The publication notes that the reason for this decision was the loss of workers in the Polish and Hungarian agricultural sectors.
