Daughter-in-law’s murder case: British Sikh woman jailed after 16 years released

London: An 86-year-old British Sikh woman has been released after serving 16 years in prison for allegedly honor killing her daughter-in-law 25 years ago. Bachan Kaur Atwal was convicted for the murder of her daughter-in-law Surjit Kaur Atwal. Bachan Kaur had carried out this incident in 1998 by calling Surjit Kaur to India. According to reports, it was learned this week that the accused woman has been released in August last year.

According to the newspaper, Judge Giles Forrester sentenced the woman to 20 years in prison, but the parole board recommended that Bachan Kaur was not in good health and that she be released on license four years earlier. The accused woman was sent to jail along with her son Sukhdev in 2007 for conspiring to murder.
