The European Commission is ready to ban the import of Ukrainian cereals. This was reported by Polish radio with reference to official sources in Brussels.
“The European Commission is ready to ban the import of wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed,” the radio said in a statement.
According to her, the problem will be discussed today, April 19, at a meeting of EC Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis with representatives of Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and a number of other EU countries.
Earlier it became known that the Bulgarian authorities suspended the import of grain from Ukraine, making an exception for goods in transit. According to Prime Minister Gylyb Donev, significant amounts of grain remained in Bulgaria in 2022, which led to disruption of food chains. Meanwhile, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has proposed to prepare a new financial aid program of 100 million euros for farmers in Eastern Europe affected by grain imports in from Ukraine.
