Putin gave the military a copy of the icon that belonged to Vanovsky

Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the head of state Vladimir Putin at Dnepr headquarters presented military personnel with a copy of the icon, whose owner was Pyotr Vannovsky, Minister of War of the Russian Empire.

“There was such a Defense Minister Vannovsky. This is the Minister of Defense, under whose leadership a very active training and development of our armed forces took place,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

He said that Emperor Alexander III handed over the icon “Saviour not made by hands” to Vannovsky. Its original will be transferred to the Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Peskov added.

Earlier, the Russian leader visited the headquarters of the Dnepr group of troops in the direction of Kherson. There, in particular, he presented the military with an icon, saying that his original belonged to one of the ministers of war in the 19th century.

Subsequently, journalists asked Peskov what kind of military leader they were talking about. The press secretary of the Russian president promised to clarify this.
