The Head of State recalled that “the first” is synonymous with “pioneers”. The vice-president of the government subscribed to these remarks, adding that “old-fashioned, we can say it”.

“Old, new – as it was, so it is. There is no escape from this. This term, this name (“Movement of the First Ones”) – he, unlike the Komsomol – the Communist Youth League – is devoid of any ideological connotation. Please think about it,” Putin said in response.

Golikova recalled that the name “Movement of the Firsts” was chosen by the representatives of Russian youth themselves. The President replied that he was aware of this. “But when we use it now… Think about it,” he turned to the Deputy Prime Minister, urging her to “check out the guys” again.

The first congress of the new Russian movement of children and young people was held in Moscow from December 18 to 20, 2022. Its participants voted for the new name “Movement of the first”, choosing this option among the leaders of the All-Russian vote, which has been going on since November. They also included such options as the “Russian Children’s and Youth Movement”, “Pioneers”, “Movement for them”. Y. Gagarin”, “Big Change” and “New Generation”. At the same time, at the congress of the movement, a new name was proposed.

Deputies and senators submitted a draft law on the creation of a new youth movement to the State Duma on May 19, 2022, the day of the 100th anniversary of the Soviet pioneers. The decree on the creation of such a movement was signed by Vladimir Putin on July 14. At the end of July, he became chairman of the movement’s supervisory board. It was originally planned that the organization would be called “Big Change”. Subsequently, the deputies abandoned this idea and decided that the members of the movement should choose a name for him themselves. The movement will have to participate in “education, professional orientation, the organization of leisure for children and young people”, prepare children “for a full life in society”, and also form their vision of the world “based on traditional Russian spiritual and moral goals”.
