Sudanese students bury their classmate after being hit by a stray bullet

After 19 years spent between classrooms and student dormitories at the University of Khartoum, the university buried the body of its student, Khaled Al-Taqi, who died of a stray bullet that hit him inside the campus while he was among his colleagues trapped inside the university due to clashes in the streets of Khartoum.

Student Musab Sharif, one of the deceased’s classmates at the University of Khartoum, said, "We buried our colleague inside the university, after we were unable to exhume his body. We agreed with his family and the university administration, and buried him in the dark so that the planes would not target us" According to the BBC.

Musab explains the details of his colleague’s death and says that Khaled was killed while trying to go out to get food with two of his colleagues "There were three of us, Khaled was shot in the chest, and we ran away and couldn’t even help him. We called for an ambulance, but it couldn’t come because of the heavy bullets. While we were burying our colleague, one of us was shot in the hand".

Musab and about 30 of his colleagues were among the nearly 100 students who were besieged in the University of Khartoum and its surroundings for more than four days in light of the continuation of the battles in Khartoum, and the university area is located near the Republican Palace and the army headquarters, where military battles take place between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

All those stranded were able to go out later to their homes with a truce entered into by the two warring parties on Monday evening, which helped them get out with caution, leaving the body of their colleague buried in the university.
