The League of Arab States affirmed the importance of the role of the Arab media in enlightening public opinion, contributing effectively to national construction and development, circulation and dissemination of information, as well as defending Arab causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
The Arab League said, in a statement on the occasion of Arab Media Day, which falls on the 21st of April every year, that this media entitlement comes in a regional context marred by serious challenges, and the continued escalation in the Palestinian territories, including in occupied Jerusalem, in light of the provocative Israeli transgressions and violations. The blatant violation of human rights, the most egregious restrictions and censorship restrictions imposed on the Palestinian media and social media to obscure and distort facts.
On the other hand, the statement indicated that the Arab Media Excellence Award for encouraging competencies and advancing media services in the member states was allocated in the current year 2023 for written, radio, television and digital creative works related to "environmental media"which aims to highlight the media’s contributions to achieving the goals of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development in support of national and regional plans and action programmes.
He noted that the award’s arbitration committee will meet soon to decide on the nominations submitted, in preparation for handing over the awards to the winning personalities and institutions under the auspices of the State of Kuwait, on the sidelines of the 53rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, scheduled for next June in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
