According to the 2023 Tibet Autonomous Region Tourism Working Conference held on April 17, from January to March this year, 25,57,400 tourists visited Tibet, a 39.63 percent increase from the first quarter of 2022. During this period, 2655 foreign tourists visited Tibet, which is an increase of 90.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
It is reported that in the first quarter of this year, Tibet received a total tourism income of 2.3 billion yuan, up 42.89 percent from the first quarter of 2022. Tourism foreign exchange earnings were 1.3 million dollars, up 109.9 percent from the same time last year, while domestic tourism earnings were 2.21 billion yuan, an increase of 42.69 percent over the same period in 2022 .
It was also learned from the work conference that affected by the epidemic, a total of 3 crore 27 thousand 600 domestic and foreign tourists came to Tibet in the year 2022, which was 27.7 percent less than the year 2021. The total tourism income was 407.77 million yuan, a decline of 7.9 percent compared to 2021. In the year 2022, 85,18,800 people visited the rural areas of Tibet, generating an income of 981 million yuan. Tourism provided employment to 85,000 farmers and herdsmen. Now, there are 321 rural tourism sites with tourism service potential in Tibet. It is reported that in the year 2023, Tibet plans to host 39 million tourists and generate 51 billion yuan in tourism income.
