The Moscow Theater Center “On Strastnoy”, which is full of young creative energy for one day in a row – until April 20, the student performance festival “Your Chance” is held here, allowing future actors of different cities to show their skills in front of the public of the capital.
On April 16, 4th grade students of the Yaroslavl State Theater Institute named after I. Sapins Shishigina. They presented a graduation performance “Someone else’s happiness” (12+) based on the play “It shines, but does not heat up” (AN Ostrovsky, N. Ya. Solovyov).
At first there is some unease because of the gap between the age of the heroes of the play and the actors (after all, there are several age characters in the work and perky youth on stage) . But after the first minutes of the performance, this feeling dissipates – here is Khudobaev (Pavel Kamchatkin) – already a real 50-year-old official, and Ilyich (Ernest Manasyan, Evgeny Russol) with Stepanida (Diana Baroyan, Arina Kurnoskina) – spouses very reliable old , constantly complaining about each other … The images gradually “sit down” on the young actors and merge with them, like a perfectly matched suit with a figure, And the line of relations between the main character – Anna Reneva (Anastasia Savkina) with other residents of the estate is so captivating that No matter which one is how old…
The image of the “young woman” Reneva is catchy, impudent. It seems that the actress is very comfortable in such lively movements and “metallic” intonations. This brilliant woman – Anna Vladimirovna Reneva – not only owns the estate. She is a leader who submits everyone and everything around her to her will. It will not be difficult for him to break someone else’s happiness… Just like that, out of boredom.

“Someone Else’s Happiness” is a classic drama. Director Tatyana Kutsenko constructed the action in such a way that the dramas reflected in the plot (the first of which takes place inside one person, the second destroys the relationship of two) do not slip away, but are equivalent parts of the performance.
The bored “lady” does not know what to do with herself, left without means of support. She returns to her homeland hoping to sell the estate and make some money, but instead she completely abandons herself to another idea.
One night, she becomes the involuntary witness of a romantic encounter between Olya Vasilkova (Elina Senchikhina, Ulyana Bondareva) and Boris Rabachev (Maxim Shvedov), the daughter of the former owner of this estate and his closest neighbor. The importance of selling the house pales in the eyes of the beautiful Reneva before the need to destroy the fragile happiness of lovers. It seems to her that it is easy, because Olya is a simple, naive girl, and she is a worldly, educated woman, who can easily take control of any man’s heart. Reneva persuades Boris to take care of her as if for fun – boating on the river several times, singing songs in the moonlight… After all, she is so bored here in the desert. Boris reluctantly agrees. Olya suspects something is wrong. When the feeling of “something is wrong” arises in the heart of Boris himself, it becomes too late.

He goes on dates with the “young woman” at night. For Olya, this time of day becomes fatal – now it’s the night that she is most anxious…
It is worth noting an interesting decision of the lighting designer – the transition from one time of day to another in the performance is carried out precisely with the help of lighting. The morning is a brilliant white light. The day is yellow. With the onset of dusk, the light gradually fades. And at night it turns piercing blue – cold and disturbing. Transitions are carried out smoothly, there is no flash, the eyes do not get tired from frequent changes in lighting. The time is also indicated using sound – birds chirp softly during the day, the voices of crickets break the silence at night. These sounds also convey the color of the hinterland – it is easier for the viewer to immerse themselves in what is happening, to feel the atmosphere (everyday scenes also contribute to this – the male characters know and chop firewood, wash themselves, draw water from a tub with their palms).
Trying to break someone else’s happiness, Reneva fails to notice that her own happiness, in general, is in her hands. She longs for love, but doesn’t see how the men around her are in love with her. Creating your own is hard, destroying someone else’s is much easier, and people like her don’t like it when it’s hard…

And the rest of the characters don’t seem to like it too much either. Like most people, they are susceptible to temptations and prone to weaknesses. Boris, who initially gives the impression of a strong man, is no exception. But as a result of his mistake, Olya suffered. And again – at night, the darkness of which this time was not so intense – a huge moon rose in the sky. She seemed to underline what had happened.
And the unbearable fragility of happiness.
