China issues white paper on legal protection status of intellectual property rights

As the 23rd World Intellectual Property Rights Day approaches, the Chinese Supreme People’s Court on April 20 issued a white paper on the legal protection status of intellectual property rights in 2022. In this, the new progress achieved in the legal protection of intellectual property rights was introduced in various aspects including trial of lawsuits, construction of hearing mechanism, international cooperation.

According to this white paper, in the year 2022, Chinese courts continued to strengthen the legal protection of intellectual property rights of key technologies in key areas. Last year, more than 540,000 cases related to intellectual property rights were settled, including foreign intellectual property rights. About 9 thousand cases related to rights are involved. There are now 558 basic-level courts in China empowered to deal with intellectual property rights civil cases.

Thao Kaiyuan, Vice President of the Chinese Supreme People’s Court, pointed out that China’s international influence in the legal protection of intellectual property rights continues to grow. Chinese courts are actively participating in global intellectual property rights governance under the framework of the World Intellectual Property Rights Organization. and promoting the improvement of related international rules and standards by deepening legal cooperation with other countries and regions.
