Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has launched gas supplies from the Black Sea. The solemn ceremony took place at the gas processing complex of Filyos.
“Today we are celebrating two holidays at once – the upcoming Eid al-Fitr and the start of gas supply from the Black Sea, which is an important step for Turkey to achieve energy independence” , Erdogan said on the TRT television channel.
Initially, it is planned to produce 10 million cubic meters of blue fuel per day, Erdogan said in his speech. Once at full capacity, the supplies will be able to cover up to 30% of the needs of the republic. The Turkish leader has promised his fellow citizens that they may not pay for gas for a whole year when it is used in cooking and for heating homes, where it will start flowing from the first week of May. Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said Turkey’s proven Black Sea gas reserves will last for the next 35 years.
Last October, the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the sidelines of the Asian confidence-building measures conference summit in Astana, said that the Turkish gas hub could become not only a supply platform, but also to determine the price of fuel.
