In Moscow, former Deputy Culture Minister Olga Yarilova was arrested on suspicion of the crime of corruption. According to the 112 Telegram channel, she is accused of embezzling funds under the Pushkin Card program. Now she is under interrogation.
Yarilova served as Russia’s Deputy Culture Minister for four years and left the post in September 2022 “of her own free will”. According to sources, she was involved in corruption cases even before her appointment as deputy minister, but no formal charges have been filed against her till today.
The Pushkin Card program was launched by the Ministry of Culture in 2018. Its aim was to increase citizens’ access to cultural events and attractions, as well as the development of cultural tourism. The program allocated subsidies for the development of cultural facilities in the regions. Some experts have said that this program has become the target of corrupt practices, including the use of fictitious companies and false documents.
