The Iranian Navy’s Fateh submarine detected and coerced the United States’ Ohio-class nuclear submarine Florida as it attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz (connecting the Persian Gulf in the southwest to the Gulf of ‘Oman to the south-east). This was announced by the Commander of the Navy of the Islamic Republic Amir Shahram Irani.
“Because the (American) submarine was close to Iranian territorial waters, it received an appropriate warning, changed course and continued on its way with an escort,” Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.
The US Navy, in turn, noted that Tehran’s statement is not true and is “another Iranian disinformation” to destabilize the situation in the region, stressing that there is no understatement at all. American sailors in this area.
