French President Emmanuel Macron was hit in the forehead by a rotten egg while traveling in Alsace. The head of state was greeted in the region with whistles and insults.
A video of the incident of the French leader’s unsuccessful trip across the country has spread on social media. Who of the crowd threw a chicken egg at the president is unknown. Nor is it stated how much the politician himself suffered.
Macron held several meetings during the day in Alsace, located in the east of the country. He was greeted everywhere by crowds of indignant citizens who were unhappy with the pension reform. Protesters shouted insults at the president and staged “potty marches”.
Disgruntled Frenchmen began banging on pots and pans with spoons as soon as the head of state approached them. Such a reception was notably organized for him at the Mathis carpentry factory in Mutterschols in the Bas-Rhin department.
Macron tried to translate the “pan marches” into a joke.
“The pots will not make France progress,” he told protesters on BFMTV, stressing that his government is “interested in what will allow our fellow citizens to live better”.
On April 15, French President Macron signed a law on pension reform and raising the retirement age to 64, pending the bulk of the text to be approved by the Constitutional Council by Friday evening . The president had two weeks to publish the text, but apparently the Elysée has no intention of waiting.
