Today, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit, his first since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Stoltenberg’s visit to Kiev comes 14 months after the start of the Russian military operation inside Ukrainian territory, and NATO pledged to stand by Ukraine to repel the Russian attack on it. And Ukrainian media reported that the Secretary-General of the alliance visited a memorial to soldiers who fell in battle in the center of the capital, Kiev, after he had earlier invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to attend the NATO summit scheduled for next July, while Zelenskyy demanded that his country be allowed to "Quick membership in the alliance". In a related context, the Russian presidency (the Kremlin) confirmed today that "Preventing Ukraine from joining the Western military alliance is still one of the most important goals of the war, otherwise it will pose a serious threat to Russia and its security.". Russia believes that the military aid provided by NATO to Kiev is evidence that NATO and the United States are waging a proxy war against it in Ukraine.
