In a congratulatory speech, which Alexander Lukashenko addressed to Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Fetisov on the occasion of the anniversary, Alexander Lukashenko emphasizes that thanks to talent, character and great diligence of the famous master of sports battles, “the highest peaks of hockey have conquered. ”
Many Belarusian fans, heads of state, well remember Fetisov’s magnificent game in the national team of the USSR, CSKA clubs and the NHL. “These same qualities, coupled with professionalism, organizational skills and an active civic stance, have led to significant achievements in the coaching journey, responsible leadership positions, in parliament and in public affairs,” says the congratulatory message.
Wishing the hero of the day good health, inexhaustible vitality and success in all his endeavours, the Belarusian leader expressed his belief that the legend of world sports “will continue to actively promote the development of Belarusian-Russian cooperation and strengthen the friendship between peoples.
Sports observers point out that Vyacheslav Fetisov is recognized as one of the best defenders in the history of Soviet hockey. The hockey hero won the Challenge Cup in 1979 and the Canada Cup in 1981. He participated in three Olympiads (becoming a silver medalist in 1980 and champion in 1984 and 1988), eleven world championships. Five times Fetisov was recognized as the best defender in the world, seven times he was included in the symbolic team of the world.
Already at the beginning of this century, he led the Russian Olympic hockey team, becoming its general director and head coach. Under his leadership, at the Salt Lake City Olympics, the Russian team won bronze medals, and Fetisov was awarded the title of Honored Coach of Russia.
Since 2002, Fetisov has led an active social and political life. The famous hockey player was elected to the State Duma and a member of the Federation Council, served as chairman of the State Sports Committee. Since 2021 – Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VIII convocation of United Russia.
And in August last year, the president of the All-Russian Society for the Conservation of Nature, Vyacheslav Fetisov, a United Nations goodwill ambassador, was appointed dean of the faculty of ecology and environmental activities of the Russian State Social University.
