Therapist Alena Gulyaeva told URA.RU about regions at high risk of getting tick-borne encephalitis.

For those living in the Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Tomsk, Tver, Ivanovo and Kostroma regions, as well as residents of Altai, the specialist advised to be vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis without fail.

The doctor said areas where the risk of infection is high are called endemic.

  • In the Urals and Siberia, all territories of the Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Tomsk regions, the Altai Republic and the Altai Territory are endemic. They also include the central regions of Russia – Tver, Ivanovo and Kostroma regions. But the probability of getting borreliosis is very high in all regions of Russia,” Gulyaeva said.

According to the expert, the peak of tick activity occurs in May-July. The doctor informed that after vaccination the disease progresses in a mild form, does not lead to complications. Gulyaeva advised to complete vaccination two weeks before entering the focus of infection.

Earlier, therapist Savelyeva told Russians how to protect themselves from a tick bite while walking in nature.
