The UK’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) has published message with a warning to organizations associated with critical national infrastructure. In him said about a threat that would come from “Russian hacker groups”.

The NCSC website, which is part of the British Government’s Communications Centre, says they are hackers supporting the Russian military operation in Ukraine. The report also mentions Israeli spyware, which British experts say could be widely used by cyberhackers.

“Some (hacker) groups have announced their intention to carry out destructive and disruptive attacks. <…> The threat comes particularly from pro-state groups that sympathize with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and have emerged over the last year and a half,” warns the UK cybersecurity centre.

Its experts say that the hacker groups mentioned in their illegal activities are not guided by financial interests and are not controlled by the state. Therefore, their activity is less predictable than in similar “traditional” cases, and their goals may be more diverse.

The NCSC does not name the alleged groups, although it says that in the near future they will carry out DDoS attacks, damage websites and distribute counterfeits and attempt “to have a more destructive impact on the infrastructure of countries. Westerners”.

With regard to this hypothetical threat, the NCSC recommends that UK organizations involved in any way with critical infrastructure sites consult National Cyber’s “Emergency Threat Guides” Security Center and “ensure they have taken action” in accordance with these guidelines. .

The guidelines that mention the NCSC were made public in January 2022. It contains an action plan that companies are required to implement to improve cybersecurity and protection against hacker attacks.
