The Iranian Navy has forced the USS Florida Ohio-class nuclear submarine to surface. This is reported by the Iranian agency Tasnim. It is stated that the submarine attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
Details of the incident were provided to the agency by the Commander of the Islamic Republic Navy, Amir Shahram Irani. According to him, the American submarine was approaching the Strait of Hormuz in complete silence.
But, despite all precautions, the nuclear submarine was discovered by the Islamic Republic Navy submarine “Fateh”. The actions of the Iranian sailors forced the American submarine to surface and cross the strait on the surface.
Note that the Ohio-class submarines form the backbone of America’s strategic offensive nuclear forces. These submarines carry out regular combat patrols, spending 60% of their time at sea.
According to military experts, since 2002, Ohio-class boats have been the only type of missile carrier in service with the US Navy.
Currently, 14 of the 18 submarines in the series are armed with 24 Trident intercontinental ballistic missiles, equipped with multiple individually guided warheads.
At the same time, the media note that the USS Florida is the second submarine of the US Navy, where female submarines serve. In 2019, a sex scandal broke out here, which led to the dismissal of the post of submarine commander.
