During the flight over Belgorod on April 20, the Su-34 bomber suffered an emergency dumping of ammunition. According to sources, it was an FAB-500M62 aerial bomb with a new planning and correction module (UMPC).
As a result of falling ammunition, an explosion thundered in the center of the city and a funnel with a diameter of about 20 meters was formed. Several tasks and structures were damaged. Three people were injured.
According to the governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov, the inhabitants of the five-storey building who suffered from the explosion were evacuated and resettled. Some people went to relatives and friends, many settled in the Amaks hotel. The evacuation took place under the control of the competent services.
The incident is under investigation. Gladkov noted that in the near future it is necessary to draw up design and estimate documentation for the damaged house in order to start repair work as soon as possible.
Earlier, a similar incident happened in Donetsk. So, on March 12, an aerial bomb FAB-500M62 was discovered in the Kuibyshev district of the city, and in the immediate vicinity of it were the characteristic wings of the control and correction unit. Similar situations occur, because the FAB – 500M62 falling from an aircraft is a new development that requires some corrections.
