Kristján Einar Sigurbjörnsson, a fisherman and influencer often referred to as Kleini, was sentenced to almost four years in prison in Spain last November for a robbery in Malaga. From this report The source in its latest issue published today.
It was said that according to the court hearing the case, Kleini, together with another man, attacked two people, robbed one of them and attempted to rob the other. The crimes took place under cover of night and both perpetrators were under the influence of drugs. The cases were separate. It was stated that Kleini pleaded guilty in the case.
After Kleini returned to Iceland, however, he downplayed the above affair in interviews, calling it a drunken fight and that he had done nothing to warrant a prison sentence.
Kleini has now reacted to the source’s report in an Instagram post. According to Kleina, after returning to Iceland, he felt compelled to speak out about the incidents. Although he was not ready, he decided to give in to reduce the harassment towards him. He was not ready to look at himself and did not properly report all aspects of the case. He says he regrets it. Today, the fisherman is in a better position, but he is aware that he still has a long way to go.
The full post:
“Due to the media coverage of the sentence I received in November last year, I believe it is only fair to correct and better explain the comments I made regarding this matter.
When I finally returned home to Iceland after eight months in detention in Spain, I came under enormous outside pressure to tell my story, especially from the media. I was in a bad place and didn’t feel ready to talk about my problems or talk about my mistakes. Nevertheless, I made the decision, which I felt compelled, to do just that in hopes that the irritation would lessen.
At that time, however, I was not ready to fully look at myself and admit my mistakes to myself – let alone the whole nation. I didn’t report every aspect of the case correctly, and for other aspects I left it to myself not to tell the whole story. I regret that.
Fragility is something everyone should know about, and at that point I just wasn’t strong enough to be judged on the mistakes I made in my weakest moment.
I wasn’t where I am now, which is a better place. Nevertheless, I realize that I still have a long way to go in my recovery process and I am determined to continue this journey with the help of my loved ones.
Sincerely, Kristján Einar Sigurbjörnsson”
