Pakistan’s new team director Mickey Arthur believes skipper Babar Azam will become a legend of the game and his team will be able to win the World Cup and hold the top rankings in all formats.
Arthur signed a one-year contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday. After this, when he was asked about backing Babar as a coach (between 2016 and 2019), he said, “The thing that impressed me the most is his hand, the speed of his hands.” When Grant Bradburn first told me to watch this player in the nets, I was taken aback. I have never seen his hand speed and talent like him.
The former Pakistan coach said, “I knew he was going to be an important part of the team. I believe he is the number one batsman right now and he is an amazing, amazing talent. I still think he has room for improvement. I’ll keep challenging him. He is going to be a legend of this game.
Arthur, who turned down an offer to become the full-time head coach with the Pakistan team, said ‘there is no such thing as an online coach’.
“First of all, there is no such thing as an online coach. You build relationships with the players, you know exactly what the players need and you give it to them.
On rejoining the team, Arthur said, “It is a privilege for me. It’s good to be back again and do it for the team. Hopefully we will win the World Cup. It will take us to number one in the world in all formats of the game because we definitely have the talent, definitely the players.
