Dr. Shirin Kassam explained what changes in diet will help prevent the development of stroke.

According to the specialist, about 90% of stroke cases are due to atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition in which fatty plaques build up in the arteries, which can cut off the blood supply to the brain.

Risk factors for stroke include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity. Proper nutrition will help to cope with all these conditions.

Dr. Kassam explained that frequent consumption of foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds can create a powerful combination that can prevent various health issues.

A plant-based diet low in saturated fat and high in fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-inflammatory compounds. This combination of nutrients will help maintain normal cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose levels.

Additionally, this type of diet is also low in processed foods, which have been linked to various cardiovascular problems.
