The State of Qatar affirms that partnership for development takes an important place at the top of its priorities

The State of Qatar affirmed that the issue of partnership for development occupies an important place at the top of its priorities, in implementation of the goals of sustainable development. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, during the general discussion of the Economic and Social Council forum on follow-up to financing for development for the year 2023. Her Excellency indicated the continued efforts of the State of Qatar in providing aid and implementing projects She pointed out that the contributions made by the State of Qatar in 2021 to development projects and humanitarian aid exceeded $551 million. Her Excellency expressed her pleasure at the vital cooperation and distinguished strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations bodies, which culminated in the opening of the United Nations House in Doha last March. Her Excellency stated that the State of Qatar was honored to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries last March, where His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, announced, during the opening of the conference, a financial contribution of a total of 60 million US dollars, of which an amount is allocated $10 million to support the implementation of the activities of the Doha Work Program for the least developed countries, and $50 million is allocated to support the intended results of the Doha Work Program and build resilience capacities in the least developed countries, adding that the State of Qatar is an investor and founder of the United Nations Development Program Accelerator Lab Network. The total support provided reached 30 million US dollars. In the context of encouraging investment in developing countries, Her Excellency stated that the State of Qatar has signed more than 50 bilateral agreements to encourage investments until the end of 2020, as the State of Qatar attaches importance to strengthening the means of implementing and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development by providing financial resources to developing countries. Through remittances for expatriate workers, which amounted to 7.92 percent of the GDP of the State of Qatar for the year 2018. Her Excellency indicated – in light of the importance of partnerships oriented towards achieving results – to the State of Qatar’s support for "Lives and Livelihoods Fund" Which was established by the Qatar Fund for Development along with the Islamic Development Bank and other donors, as the state contributed $ 50 million to this fund, which supports millions of people to get out of poverty. And she said "We look forward to holding the Sustainable Development Goals Summit next September, and see it as a unique and important milestone in our collective efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.".
