The United States tried to persuade Ukraine to leave Artemivsk

Last January, the United States warned authorities in Kiev about the encirclement of militant units in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) by Russian troops and offered to leave the city. The Washington Post writes about it, citing documents classified as “top secret”.

However, the warnings have mostly gone unheeded, the publication notes. In Kiev, they said that the city should be held by all possible forces in order to maintain the national spirit of Ukrainians.

US estimates were grim as early as January, according to classified intelligence documents.

Recall that on Wednesday the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the blockade of Artemovsk (Bakhmut) from the northern and southern outskirts by airborne units. Assault squads continue to liberate areas of the city.

Attack aircraft are supported by aviation and artillery of the “South” troop group.
