The new strain of the Arcturus coronavirus is a subspecies of Omicron, but at the same time it carries great danger due to the fact that it is able to recombine with earlier species. Therefore, the rate of spread and the severity of the consequences may increase.
This was told to a correspondent of URA.RU by the head of the laboratory of especially dangerous infections of the Center for Basic Translational Medicine, Professor Alexander Chepurnov. He notes that the number of “crossroads” in Omicron is numerous – 150 cases of recombinations are already known.
“The most important thing is that he or what will appear after him does not recombine with something very heavy like the original version and Delta. Because if you add increased severity to his ability to spread, it will be bad”, says Chepurnov.
The expert also notes that the inhabitants of Russia are not immune to it, which would not allow them to be infected again. The presence of a vaccination or the fact that you have already been sick does not give any guarantee, but the severity of the course decreases considerably.
Earlier, immunologist Andrei Prodeus said that eye problems – their redness and other unpleasant phenomena resembling conjunctivitis – can become a symptom of infection with a new type of coronavirus.
