In the Yaroslavl region, a senior executive of a telecommunications operator became the defendant in a criminal case

According to the telegraph channel “Yaroslavsky Gorodovoy”, a senior official of the regional branch of the MTS company was suspected of causing damage to the budget of the Yaroslavl region.

Aleksey S., director of the Yaroslavl regional branch, is suspected of being the culprit of disrupting the regional component of the national digital economy project. MTS was obliged to lay a fiber-optic communication cable to social facilities in remote areas of the Yaroslavl region, in order to provide these social facilities with fast and high-quality digital communications.

But in fact, an expensive fiber optic cable was not laid. The contractor installed numerous radio relay antennas to ensure communications. Which were several times cheaper and operated on Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Emergencies frequencies.

The military did not agree with such intertwining of communication channels. Now the antennas have been dismantled and a criminal case has been opened for causing material damage to the state under article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Damage to the regional budget amounts to tens of millions of rubles.

According to reports, the telco’s parent company is conducting an internal audit against a senior executive. Currently, many senior managers of the Yaroslavl branch have been dismissed. Similar inspections have started in the Ivanovo and Tver regions.

Neither law enforcement, MTS, nor the region’s government have commented on the reports so far.
