This The year marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador. In an interview with the China Media Group, El Salvador’s Vice President Felix Ulloa, while discussing the relations between the two countries, said that we are satisfied because we are benefiting from the improvement of bilateral relations. This is a great opportunity to expand our relationship globally, so China is a great partner. China always supports our development and this is a good opportunity to increase international trade. He would like to describe the relationship between the two countries with three key words. First is cooperation, second is unity and third is friendship.
He said that we have chosen the path chosen by the international community. Most of the member states of the United Nations adhere to the one-China principle. China is not only a great country, but also a great participant on the international stage and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. And as I said, this represents an opportunity for El Salvador to improve its friendship with China.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and El Salvador, the two sides have made historic breakthroughs in exchanges and cooperation in various fields. In November of 2018, the two countries signed 13 cooperation agreements, including the “Belt and Road” cooperation memorandum. In late 2019, President Bukele of El Salvador paid a visit to China, and the two sides signed a number of framework agreements in the field of practical cooperation. China is El Salvador’s second largest source of imports, and one out of every six products purchased by people there comes from China.
