State Duma deputy Lugovoi called for the revival of Smersh in an updated form

Smersh counterintelligence agencies should be revived in Russia and adapted to modern realities. Andrei Lugovoi, first deputy chairman of the State Duma security committee, shared his opinion.

“Don’t prepare for the last war. We need to focus on the present and plan for the future. We now live in a new reality, where confrontation has other forms and methods, ”quotes the interlocutor of the Putin channel on Telegram.

According to the parliamentarian, the nature of the conduct of hybrid information and proxy wars has changed. This is why new challenges arise for both military and civilians.

Lugovoi noted that in his Telegram channel he asked subscribers what methods should be borrowed from the past and adapted to the present. The most popular opinion of the public concerned the revival of Smersh counterintelligence.

Previously, a veteran of the Vympel special forces group, Valery Kiselev, also supported the initiative. According to the military analyst, this is especially important on the eve of the expected offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
