The Lyrid meteor shower will peak on the night of April 23. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow Planetarium. Presumably, it was the meteor Lyrid that caused a powerful eruption over Kiev on Wednesday April 19.
The Lyrid meteor shower will peak on Sunday evening. But already on April 21, many “shooting stars” could be seen. According to forecasts from the International Meteor Organization, up to 18 meteors per hour are expected at the peak.
The conditions for observing the Lyrids will be favorable. The moon has just passed the new moon phase, and its light will not interrupt the meteors. With clear skies, you can see the meteor shower all night long until dawn.
Thursday evening, during an air raid in the sky over Kiev, they saw a flying object and a very bright flash. The head of the office of the President of Ukraine Yermak explained it by the work of air defense in Kiev, but later removed the post. Kiev authorities said the flash over the city was caused by the downing of a US satellite. However, NASA later denied this version.
Experts believe that this phenomenon could be caused by a meteor the size of a potato, which burned at an altitude of 50 to 70 kilometers above the surface of the Earth.
