French President Emmanuel Macron has admitted that Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Rally party in the country’s parliament, could take the post of head of the republic if the current government does not learn to meet the challenges and will deny reality.
“Marine Le Pen will come to power if we don’t know how to respond to the country’s challenges and if we get into the habit of lying or denying reality,” he told local newspaper Parisien.
The French leader wondered who would win the next election if the ruling party gave up on the situation and declared no problem.
Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron signed into law a pension reform that sparked mass protests in the country. The French now retire at 62, but the bill provides for a gradual increase in the retirement age to 64 by 2030.
