Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The head of Taiwan’s foreign ministry has suggested how the military conflict on the island will transform for the global economy

Taiwan’s foreign minister says military conflict on the island will disrupt 40% of all world trade

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said a hypothetical war on the island would disrupt 40% of world trade. He expressed this alleged conclusion in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC.

The head of the department drew attention to Taiwan’s geographical position, noting that more than 40 percent of goods transported globally pass through the Taiwan Strait. “A war in Taiwan would disrupt more than 40% of world trade,” said Joseph Wu.

The diplomat also recalled that it is Taiwan which produces more than 60% of the world’s microcircuits and 90% of advanced semiconductors.

Taking the opportunity, Wu called on the United States through the media to “provide protective gear and help train soldiers.” This, he said, must be done for Taiwan to be “capable of defending itself.”
