The Hamburg Parliament’s commission of inquiry has resumed hearings on the case, which concerns German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. We are talking about a tax scam eight years ago, as a result of which Germany was cheated out of 30 billion euros, according to NEWS.ru.
According to the publication, Scholz, as mayor of the city, was accused of covering up the situation in which the private bank MMWarburg was involved. In addition, inconsistencies were noted in the Chancellor’s testimony.
“The political consequences (for Scholz) can be serious”, estimate the German media.
So far, the word “resignation” does not appear in German society, but the opposition CDU/CSU faction has previously demanded that a new investigation be opened against Scholz at the level of the federal parliament. In any event, the outcome of this case risks affecting the Chancellor’s career.
Earlier it was reported that Olaf Scholz spoke to a number of local media about the “new economic miracle” that Germany is expecting in the near future. Unemployment will no longer be a problem for the country, he said. Under current conditions, according to the Chancellor, Germany will be able to achieve similar indicators by investing in the implementation of climate protection programs.
