Political scientist Markov on the situation in the South Caucasus

The famous Russian political scientist Sergei Markov spoke of a radical change in the situation in the South Caucasus. He commented on the information that Azerbaijan on April 23 set up its own checkpoint on the Lachin road, along which the communication between Armenia and Karabakh passes.

Azerbaijan officially declared that this checkpoint was necessary for many reasons: To prevent the transport of mines to Karabakh. And there are many examples of Armenia’s installation of 2021 mines there. Stop the rotation of the Armenian military garrison in Karabakh, which is there, and this violates the agreement. Stop the export of natural resources from Karabakh. Stop arms transport to Karabakh.

Markov writes on his Telegram channel that everyone in Armenia is sure that Azerbaijan installed these checkpoints in agreement with Russia. Because Russia perceives Pashinyan as a traitor. Yerevan calls on its friends the United States and France to take sanctions against Azerbaijan. These countries and the European Union have already supported Armenia.

“The situation is becoming clearer. Armenia betrays Russia and goes to France and the United States. Russia increasingly sees Azerbaijan as its ally. This is a new reality in the South Caucasus. And we have been warning about it for a long time, ”summarizes Markov.

Earlier it became known that on April 18, while reporting to the Armenian Parliament on the progress and results of the implementation of the government’s program last year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan caused a storm of emotions in several countries. This was his statement on relations with Azerbaijan.
