Ajinkya Rahane returns to Indian team, will play WTC final against Australia

Former captain Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday returned to the Indian team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia to be held at The Oval from June 7 to 11. Rahane returned to the team after 15 months.

Shreyas Iyer’s return to the team was expected after he was ruled out due to injury. Iyer has undergone an operation in UK for back pain.

Rahane has played 82 Test matches for India. He played his last Test match in January 2022 against South Africa in Cape Town. Apart from this, there has been no major change in the team led by Rohit Sharma.

KS Bharath is the only specialist wicket-keeper in the squad while Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who were in the squad for the home series against Australia, have been dropped from the current squad.

Indian squad for WTC final: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.
