Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau said the EU’s 11th sanctions package against Russia was under discussion. It will be introduced closer to the second half of May, the diplomat said after a meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers, TASS reports.
“Some states voice what they think should be there, like diamond sanctions. Others, on the contrary, say diamonds are more likely not to be directly affected. Therefore, I think the record will be closed at the earliest in the second half of May”, explained the minister.
At the same time, Rau admitted that the package would include personal restrictions on representatives of the Russian judicial system. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said earlier that the 11th package would include measures against circumventing existing restrictions, and the head of the EU’s foreign policy department, Josep Borrell, expressed concern. his doubts about his inclusion in Rosatom’s sanctions lists.
Earlier, Reuters had reported on new Polish proposals for sanctions against Russia. Warsaw proposes to limit the import of Russian oil through the northern part of the Druzhba pipeline. The idea is not only to limit Russia’s oil supply to Europe, Poland also wants to shut down the import of Russian diamonds and natural gas, including liquefied gas. In addition, they plan to break off cooperation with Russia on nuclear energy.
