The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that Russia is ready to resume a dialogue with the United States regarding strategic stability. However, the conditions for Russia are now a joint basis and full consideration of the interests of the Russian state.
This was announced on the air of the Russia-1 television channel by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. He added that when the Americans are “mature” to resume dialogue with Russia, it will assess its own interests in this regard.
“The American side has no desire to negotiate, it has no desire to resume dialogue on strategic stability, on regional issues. When they mature, if and when they have an interest in it, we will consider what our interest will be at that time,” the deputy foreign minister said.
At the same time, Ryabkov added that official Moscow has no more interest in resuming the dialogue on strategic stability than Washington, and also, addressing the Americans, stressed that it is necessary to think earlier.
“Gentlemen, it’s too late, I should have thought of this sooner.” This dialogue does not interest us any more than they do. We can dialogue, but strictly on an equal basis, strictly on the basis of 100% guaranteed accounting and the promotion of our interests. Nothing else,” summed up the high-ranking diplomat.
Deputy Minister Ryabkov said something similar in August. He said that Russia does not expect breakthroughs on the issue of resuming dialogue with the United States on strategic stability.
Last June, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said the United States was “not mature” and not ready to resume strategic dialogue. However, according to Antonov, Russia is ready to wait as long as it takes.
